Rare Munde’s Placental Curette Ebony Handle By Mathieu obstetric gynecology 1870

A rare form of obstetrical curette from Paul Fortunatus Munde, a German-born american physician, and a rare signed example.
“Munde’s Placental Curette incorporates a long slender tapering shaft terminating in a loop-shaped fenestra.  The border of the fenestra is rounded upon the outer and flattened upon the inner surface, so that both dull and sharp curettage may be performed with a single instrument.  Its octagonal ebony handle is checquered on a single side indicating the position of the curette’s rounded surface.”

Despite one crack on the unchequered side of the handle, excellent condition.
