Description
Description -One rare 1889 ROGERS & HAMILTON silverplate twist butter knife marked "PAT. 1889 ROGERS & HAMILTON '?'" (the 'question mark' means there is an additional mark following the maker, but is not discernible to me - it is shaped like a number "9" but could also be a figure of some sort). 7-3/4" long. Seems rare and scarce - I can't find one like it anywhere on the Internet to help me better describe it to you. It is monogrammed on the handle with "Ella" in script.
Condition -
Moderate tarnish. Under a loupe: Significant surface scratching consistently all over, multi-directional in nature. A few heavier scratches are intermixed. There is wear along the edges of the blade and the backside of the handle, but the front side of the handle - the pattern - seems very distinct. The maker's mark is quite distinct and clear except for that aforementioned last mark - which may be obvious to someone with experience with silverplate - I'm just doing the best I can to describe it to you using common sense and superficial knowledge to help you make a decision to buy or not. I could not get a satisfactory close-up photo to show it more clearly.
Email any questions not answered by the photos and description before bidding. Thanks.
