A mercury Sphygmomanometer requires a glass tube of at least 12 inches tall so it does not make them very portable.
Here is an interesting design where the glass column is hinged in the middle and can be folded down to make a compact portable measuring instrument.
The actual meter is in a wooden box 7 x 2 3/4 x 1 3/4"!
It has a small metal pump that still works.
This could actually still be used if you had the cuff and tubing!
An unusual item when doctors still made house calls!
This meter is at least 120 yrs old and still in very good condition.
