Isabel Goldsmith is the granddaughter of Bolivian tin king Antenor Patiño. The land and resort cover 1,700 acres of Mexico’s Pacific Coast. “Las Alamandas” refers to an exotic yellow flower that grows wild on the property. Patiño bought the land in 1977, three years after he developed the legendary “Las Hadas” resort (“The Fairies” in English).
Isabel has helmed the resort since 1987, dedicated to creating a more scaled-down resort than her grandfather’s vision: he pictured 200 condominiums, a golf course & hotel.
At the time of this story the resort didn’t have a pool. “You see, there’s a very nice ocean called the Pacific.”, she says.
When this story was written, Isabel’s father Sir James Goldsmith was developing his own resort on 1,000 acres, south of Careyes.
Las Alamandas... truly a peaceful place, natural setting... intentionally organic.
Please note: This feature story is 30 years old. This resort has likely been through many changes, likely retaining its best elements. It’s considered one of the best boutique hotels in Mexico.

    * Tearsheet / Tear Sheet: A tear sheet is a publisher’s term. It refers to the exact page or pages from a magazine that feature a specific person, topic, business, industry, etc. After a magazine story is published, the story writer, artist, editor or publisher will often mail one issue of the magazine to the person or business that they did the spotlight feature story about. As a courtesy, they will often include a tear sheet, or several tear sheets. The tear sheet consists of just the page or pages that have the story.
