Large Vintage Folk Art Gujarat Beaded Toran Door Valance from India
Toran door valances would decorate entrances for special occasions welcoming visitors as well as protecting the house and household. This beautiful panel is decorated with colored glass beads depicting different animals and plant life. Also there appears to be a human figure of importance in the center frame with guardians on either side. This toran door valance is very intricate and beautiful.  There is some wear due to age and the panel is missing a few beads on the edge in a few spots. A similar panel is also depicted in the Art of Beadwork by Valerie Hector and can be found on page 40.
This large toran measures 45 1/2 inches long by 13 inches tall. The valance weighs approximately 4 pounds.
