DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT:
25 ¼” tall x 15 ¾” wide x 18” deep. 9 lbs. Base diameter: 10"
DESCRIPTION:
Exceedingly rare and very large scale “Spirit of Ecstasy” dealer showroom display piece. It is copied from the bronze original created in 1911 by Charles Robinson Sykes (1875-1950) for Rolls-Royce, and used ever since
as their radiator mascot.
I purchased it from a collector who obtained it from the estate of the wife of the original Rolls Royce dealer in Omaha, Nebraska. Included with the purchase is a letter of authenticity from dealer Rod McKenzie’s stepdaughter along with articles and photographs that prove that this advertising statue was featured prominently in the showroom (see last four photos) c
irca 1970.
PLEASE NOTE: The photos show an identical statue with a different base. I believe this was a later replacement for the one in the photos. The statue is made of fiberglass and could well have been damaged or broken while on display in the dealer's showroom.
These statues were giant versions of the famous Rolls Royce car mascot hood ornament and were produced for Rolls Royce Motorcars Ltd. and distributed to their dealerships. These statues were constructed of fiberglass but is expertly painted to look very much like bronze.
The base shows some signs of wear but the statue itself is excellent. The photos tell the story!
The only other example of this dealer advertising piece that I was able to find in an exhaustive online search sold for ,500 in 2018. Here is their catalog description:
“These 2+ feet high scarce statues were displayed in Rolls Royce agents' showrooms and rarely appear for sale. This (is a) wonderful huge oversized version of the famous "'Spirit of Ecstasy" mascot symbol by C. Robinson Sykes. This piece is a conversation piece for any room! Wonderful! Charles Robinson Sykes (1875-1950) British. From the Estate of Everson Museum Director Sandra Trop. Measures: 25.5" high . Approx. 10" diameter base.”
The statue will ship in the same excellent packing in which I received it. T
he box is large, heavy and virtually indestructable. It is also heavy - Fully packed it will ship at 34 lbs. I will insure it for full purchase value at my expense. Buyer pays 3.01 FedEx Ground/FedEx Home Delivery, plus insurance.
