Description

LAMINATED ORIGINAL 1930 ANTIQUE PRESCRIPTION for CODEINE SULPHATE with serial number 6056
This original antique prescription for codeine sulphate (1/2 grain) was handwritten in blue ink by Dr. Donald J. MacGillivray of Middletown, Connecticut, and dated July 11, 1930.
Stamped diagonally in light blue all-caps: "THIS PRESCRIPTION CANNOT BE REFILLED NOR A COPY GIVEN. FILLED 7/12/30
J.E. BURGER
"
This prescription has a stamp on it, showing
Store No. 514
in black
,
and the four-digit serial number
6056
in blue.
This narcotic prescription was originally glued to a brown paper backing and filed in a prescription box specifically designated "
Harrison Law Narcotics
." (I've uploaded a picture of the file box to show the years of its prescriptions from 1930 to 1935, and the range of its serial numbers from 6056 to 12712. The box is not for sale, but the 4x6 "for reference only" photograph will be included with the  prescription.)
The
Harrison Act of 1914
imposed a special tax "on all persons who produce, import, manufacture, compound, deal in, dispense, sell, distribute, or give away opium or coca leaves, their salts, derivatives, or preparations."
This antique codeine sulphate prescription has been laminated to protect and preserve it.
