Emilia Castillo Figural Double Picture Frame 'As Is'
This listing is for a very rare. original Emilia Castillo silverplated figural swinging monkey frame with inlaid and chunky malachite bamboo tree stand. This wonderfully detailed and whimsical piece was part of Emilia Castillo's " Monkey Series " that featured various home accessory items that she designed. Although not certain, I believe this was made by Castillo, in Mexico, in the 1990's. It was sold exclusively through Neiman-Marcus and other high-end retailers. When new, this piece retailed for almost ,400. This piece has some damages and repairs, so we are selling it at a greatly reduced priced in 'as is' condition. The photo stand looks like a piece of bamboo with leaves at the top and on on the arms. It contains individually mounted genuine malachite stones, in addition to inlaid malachite leaves. It has a beautifully hand hammered base and the bottom is lined with green felt. The stand measures 11" tall and 8 3/4" wide. Its base is 6 3/4" x 3 3/4". Both of the figural monkey an intricately detailed monkey with hard stone cabochon eyes grasping an oblong frame with two sides of glass. A total of four photos can be displayed in this piece. Each individual monkey frame measures 7 1/2" tall. Each is 4" wide. The piece can hold four photos measuring roughly 3" x 4" each .
This piece might be marked underneath the green felt, but we have not attempted to remove the felt to find out.We are selling this piece 'as is'. The areas around the eyes around the stone cabochons are darkened on both monkeys (more pronounced on one). We are not sure if any of the glass is original, but one pane of glass is cracked. There is a minor nick along the edge of the the hammered base. Tarnish is present in some areas. The ball closures on the picture frames do not match (please see photo) and it looks like one has been repaired. The photos are an essential part of the condition, so please view all ten of them.
