That is for your piece of mind to at least know that you are getting what you have paid for.  The bulbs/lamps are checked for continuity on a meter. Please note that, on some lamps/bulbs, the contacts are cleaned for maximum performance. No further testing is performed.
You will receive whatever brand or brands I have on hand. If you purchase several lamps, you may receive more than one brand.
Some boxes look pretty good for them being old store stock, although there might be a few with stains/tears from removal of stickers, or some might have missing end flaps, minor writing, replacement boxes,or just general storage wear, but the bulb itself is new old stock.
