    that is beautifully engraved into the brass. 3 blades by "Holmes / Derby".
    These Large Bleeders were to be used on animals, not humans. Another style was used on humans that has a small spring loaded blade. Yes, Bleeding was still considered  good medicine during the Civil War era. The rust can be easily removed with a wire brush (just keep it off of the brass.)
