Description
Bordeaux Sur la Garonne (French); 1972; Soft cover; Very Good Condition. An excellent soft cover (but sturdy) work by Louis Desgraves that reviews the origins, history, evolution and actuality (in 1972) of France's Bordeaux region, hardly mentioning the wine aspect at all. Printed/published in France by Saime S.A. Editier in a unique format that reeks of "European" - books is almost square, as opposed to a rectangular format higher than wide. This work is more of a historical and cultural study, as opposed to a standard "travel" book and is chock-full of old photos, maps, illustrations reproductions of art and many references to architecture. A few totally vintage color plates near the end, in the sections dealing with modern day aspects of the region, highlighting it as astrategic hub for the aeronautics, military and space sectors as well as a center for higher learning.
Crossed by the
Garonne River
and bordering the
Atlantic Coast
, the Bordeaux region is a perfect example ofthe
Age of Enlightenment
showcasing buildings with blond and golden facades, courtyards and
monumental squares
, as well as its lively streetsaccompanied by its
French-style gardens
.
Bordeauxis an international tourist destination for its architectural and culturalheritage with more than 350 historic monuments,

making it,
after
Paris
, the city with the most listed or registeredmonuments in France. The "
Pearl of the Aquitaine
" is well-served in this masterful gem containing a total of approx. 140 printed pages and equal number of photos/illustrations.
