century medical or surgical chair manufactured by A. McDannold of St. Louis, MO as signed on base stretcher.

Iron adjustable chair base with black covered wooden seat and back

Carved decoration on seat back

Stencil painted decoration on base.
Seat height is adjustable.
Considering age and use, overall very good condition with expected wear.
Paint decoration and minor rust on base as pictured.
McDannold surgical chairs won the Highest Prize at the St. Louis World Fair in 1904.
A similar chair was featured by McDannold in the 1904 World’s Fair in 1904.
Included is a copy of an early 20
th
century trade ad for the chair.
Fabulous conversation piece of excellent quality inspired by dentist, doctor, barber chairs.
Approximately 54.5”H x 26”W x 38” D.
This chair was actively used in a 3 generation rural Missouri medical practice until 1980.
Since then it has been owned and cared for by descendents of the original physicians.
