    Description

This is an exquisite medical antique item in excellent condition (as far as I can tell!)  It is elegant, well made and all original! (I would think this is for display purposes only.)
The case is 3-1/8" long, 1-1/8" wide and 5/8" tall.  There are no scratches, dents or marks.  It is labeled on the outside "
    Lilly
ASEPTIC" The word "Lilly" is in handwriting script.  On the inside, under where the glass syringe snaps in is: "PAT-4-15-13" and "PAT-10-12-15".  It snaps shut securely.  There is some miniscule spotting along the back hinge that runs the length of the box, but it is hard to see without magnification.
The glass syringe is 2-7/8" long and is undamaged.  The plunger is easily removed and moves easily in the barrel.  The barrel has etched markings that once has red paint, but now most of it is gone.  It is calibrated in units that go from 0-30.  It is marked: "Lilly" in scripts, "ILETIN SYRINGE" "ELI LILLY & CO INDIANAPOLIS U S A"  My research shows that "ILETIN" was Eli Lilly's version of insulin.
There are two needle heads, one is slightly shorter than the other, but both appear still sharp.  One is 3/4" and the other is 5/8".  There is a brass piece with a screw barrel that I assume was used when filling the syringe.  The spring seems to have been designed to attach to the flange piece and could've been used to secure the barrel.  The flange is marked: "PAT" and what appears to be "3-2-15" but the numbers are cut off.
NOTE: I HAVE NOT CLEANED or SANITIZED this item and will leave it up to the buyer.
According to the Smithsonian, this syringe kit was made about 1930.  The Smithsonian National Museum of American History catalog number is M-02888 if you want to do additional research.
Because of the delicate nature of this piece, it will be packed VERY well in a box inside an envelope.  I happily combine shipping on compatible items!  After you purchase the first item, please send me a message to let me know you are still shopping.  Once you have purchased all your items (all within one week), I will combine the auctions into one invoice with one shipping fee.  (NOTE: If you pay for the items separately, they will come in separate packages.)  Thank you!
