Silver Braided Wire Belt (Karmapatti)Maharashtra/Andhra Pradesh, India.

This rare belt comprises two thick strands of finely woven silver wire, gathered together by a series of silver floral keeps, embellished with 24 silver flowers on a prominent frontpiece. The belt opens by means of a screw mechanism – one of the two finials that jut from either side of the most central panel element of the belt screws out allowing the belt to be opened and closed. The screw screws in anti-clockwise – the opposite to modern, western screw mechanisms.The belt is in excellent condition and has a beautiful patina. This superb belt is from my personal collection purchased in India between 1975-1980.
