Description
This is an original antique pamphlet on the treatment of “Feeble Minded” people titledThe Feeble-Minded World
. This pamphlet is 16 pages measuring about 6” x 9” with an ink hand stamp of Joseph F. Neff, M.D., Director on the front cover. Dr. Joseph S. Neff was the Director of the Department of Public Health and Charities in Philadelphia who was largely responsible for planning and opening the Byberry Insane Asylum.
In this pamphlet the condition of feeblemindedness is defined and differentiated from other types of general dullness and other mental problems and numerous examples of different cases are cited. Recommendations are made to build a proper institution for the feebleminded and to sterilize and prohibit marriage for the “
….elimination of degenerate strains from the community
”. This pamphlet isn’t dated but references in the text suggest this was printed in 1910 or 1911 and the Byberry Insane Asylum opened in 1911.
This antique original pamphlet is fully complete but printed in rather fragile and brittle paper. There are a couple small chips and nicks on the edges and some separation between the covers along the spine. The front cover page shows toning from age. Email any questions. Thanks for looking.
