1896 Whitehead & Hoag Little Pinkie The Boy Orator Pinback Button.
Item is a 7/8”multi-colored celluloid pinback from a set of pinbacks called Little Pinkies.
This pinback is normally associated with an American Pepsin Gum promotion; but this issue has a metal back and predates the gum promotion.
Pinback shows the color image of a character with a hat that looks a little like a fez with LITTLE PINKIES in tiny block letters aside and BOYORATOR off to the right hand side of the image.
This term “Boy Orator” is normally associated with William Jennings Bryan.
The reverse of the pinback is metal and has “W & H Pat Apr 14 July 21 96 Newark N.J. U.S.A.”
Rim curl has “Pat July 21, 1896” in tiny block letters.
Pinback is Very Good Plus to Excellent with no celluloid cracks or breaks.
Metal reverse is also Very Good with loss of silvering.
There is an indentation to the reverse rim collet where the pin has been pressed against the collet for a longtime.
This does not impact the overall condition of the pinback. This pinback should not be confused with the American Pepsin Gum Variety.
