Here's a rounded end female 2 pc glass gonorrhea syphilis syringe (with original cobalt blue glass plunger), for injecting liquid cures for venereal disease directly into one's sexual organ. Hand blown....7"long (11 1/4"with plunger withdrawn)....cobalt blue glass plunger has 4 separately applied little rings ....the bottom two still have the original cotton string wadding seal in place.....still has original cork seal in top opening with wood plug.....Excellent shiny attic mint condition with no chips, nicks or damage. A nice clean syringe. Finest possible example. This syringe with rounded end with 4 holes was designed for use by females. It could also have been used by men for giving enemas. Mercury was one of the most common "cures" for Vd in the 1800s which gave rise to the saying "An evening with Venus: A month with Mercury". Many prostitutes had gonorrhea who passed the disease on to men who had been away from home during the Civil War. Thousands of men contracted gonorrhea from prostitutes and sadly brought diseases home with them after the war was over in 1865. Of course there was no cure for venereal disease, so home treatments of mercury and various other awful and dangerous drugs were used with these syringes.....to no avail.
